My first mix in over a year . . . another mix of Brazilian tracks. This one is a tribute to malandragem, the philosophy and art of cunning and deception exemplified by capoeira mestres and malandros.
It's been 9 months since I've mixed anything, but finally here's a follow-up to Sonhos de Capoeira. This one's dedicated to Palmares, the settlement of runaway and free-born Africans––along with some indigenous Brazilians––founded around 1600 in the Serra da Barriga hills of northeastern Brazil. Forced to defend themselves against repeated attacks by Portuguese colonial power, legend has it that the inhabitants of Palmares were experts in capoeira. The most famous member of Palmares was Zumbi, the last of the leaders of the Quilombo dos Palmares.
Finally got time to make a new mix . . . all deep house cuts, mostly vocal. Something to enjoy for the New Year.
A selection of tracks by gifted, soulful artists, including Donnie Hathaway, Joe Bataan, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, and more.
A melange of electronica, hip hop brasileiro, samba, and capoeira music inspired by and dedicated to the Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance/game.
This is a mix I made a year and a half ago of some tasty revolutionary Latin music. Enjoy!
